![]() ![]() Manhart probably lies somewhere between there and the absolute worst, the protesters who are still walking on the flag with a bigger audience than they ever dreamed possible. I guess desecration of the flag is a matter of degrees, possibly starting with the car dealer who flies Old Glory from the antennas of imported cars. So what happened to that big flag that touched the floor?ĭid Manhart tearfully hand it over to the American Legion for one of its retirement ceremonies? Another photo shows her with two smaller American flags held strategically over her upper body. ![]() Good thing nobody important had died, otherwise she couldn't have held it above her waist. There also photos of her standing holding a big American flag with the stars between her breasts, which she covered with her hands, as the stripes spilled onto the floor between her feet. ![]() While she was still in the Air Force, I learned, Manhart posed for Playboy, and that effectively ended her career. Manhart saluting in full uniform, but there were also photos of Manhart out of uniform, and I mean fully out. I was fully in Manhart's corner until I Googled her to try to figure out what she had done in the Air Force. My blood boils at the mere sight of anyone desecrating an American flag, be it by burning, ripping or trampling. She is now the darling of patriotic Americans. "I did not want anything like this, but I got a call from a student who told me that the flag was on the ground, and they were walking on it,'' Manhart told the Valdosta Daily Times. Manhart said that was more than she could stand, and when she put up a bit of a fight, police handcuffed her and returned it to the protesters, none of whom, I'm guessing, ever did one thing for the country or its flag. She surrendered the flag to campus police who handed it back to protesters. Flag etiquette says once a flag touches the ground it must be retired, which is a euphemism for ceremonial burning. Manhart came onto campus last week and saw the flag under the boots of the protesters, and she snatched it up to rescue it. Most people would have let it go as some fringe group if not for Air Force veteran Michelle Manhart. This sort of stuff happens all the time, especially on what Dan Jenkins has described as the left coast.
